She was born November 12, 1940, in Colchester, Connecticut, middle daughter of the late Joseph Busel and Anna Laxman Busel of Spring City, Pennsylvania.

Joyce grew up in Colchester CT, Orange VA and Phoenixville PA. She attended Orange County High School and graduated from Phoenixville High School. A graduate of Madison College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, she was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority and retired from the Orange County Public Schools where she taught generations of students at Orange County High School and Prospect Heights Middle School. After retirement she was active in Breakfast Buddies at Gordon-Barbour Elementary School and was a longtime member of the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her only son, Michael David Miller and his wife, Kim, of Midlothian; two grandchildren, Benjamin Joseph and Claire Elizabeth, both of Midlothian; one step sister-in-law, Kay Deane of Barboursville; one step brother-in-law, H.F. Deane of Barboursville; Sisters Joan K. (Busel) Hillegass of Alliance, OH, Jane B. Ryan and her husband, Michael V. Sr., of Telford, PA; nieces, Karen L. Woodring and her husband, David; Catherine R. Thompson and her husband, David and daughters; nephews, Jeffery G. Miller, Michael V. Ryan Jr. and daughters as well as a host of friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother-in-law, M. Guy Miller and wife Sandra L. Miller; stepfather-in-law, Herman F. Deane; Father-in-law Maynard G Miller and mother-in-law Helen Miller Deane; and brother-in-law William Hillegas.
