Samuel “Sam” Buckner Jarrell, Jr of Orange passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Center for Acute Hospice Care in Charlottesville, VA with family present. 

He was the youngest child of the late Samuel Buckner Jarrell and Martha B. Kirtley Jarrell of Madison County. He was preceded in death by sisters Juanita P. Lillard and Marjorie J. Faudree; brother Thomas R. Jarrell; son Stanley Bruce Jarrell and grandson Dillon Samuel Jarrell. 

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 65 years Eleanor Aylor Jarrell; daughter Karen J. Morris (Jay) of Greene County; sons Gregory Scott Jarrell (Yvette) of Orange County and Kevin Buckner Jarrell (Kimberly) of Florida and daughter-in-law Denise M. Jarrell of North Carolina.

He was Papa to seven grandchildren: Christin J. Mayo (Owen), Meagan J. Emery (Wayne), Spencer D. Jarrell, Danielle G. Jones (Travis), Allison K. Gent, Hannah R. Jarrell, and Ethan S. Jarrell and four great grandchildren: Natalie R. Reardon, Jacob Samuel Mayo, Sarah E. Mayo and Kaiden O. Jones. Also, a host of nieces and nephews.

Sam was a graduate of Madison County High School. He was a loving husband and devoted father. He was a kind, gentle soul and an avid reader that will be missed by many. Sam was a Christian, member of Orange Baptist Church and former deacon.

He retired from Dominion Energy (VEPCO) with over 35 years of service. Afterwards, he worked at Woodberry Forest School for about 10 years. He served as Scoutmaster for Cub Scouts, Pack 14 for several years. Also, he was a former member and Governor of the Moose Lodge in Orange.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Madison Memorial Gardens in Madison County.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Sam, the family requests memorial gifts be given to Orange Baptist Church (PO Box 167, Orange, VA 22960) or the charity of your choice.
