May 19, 1955 - July 5, 2025

Granville “Jack” Utz III, of Madison County, Virginia, passed away at his home on July 5, 2025, at age of 70. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jack was the son of the late Granville Hollister Utz Jr. and Peggy Dwyer Utz. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna D. Utz; his children, Holly U. Ezell and Joseph B. Utz; and his cherished grandchildren, Caylie and Hayden Ezell. Jack also leaves behind his siblings, Jil Sweeney and Jeremy Utz; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Deane; and his brother-in-law, Frankie Deane. 

A proud native of Madison County, Jack grew up playing baseball and other sports for Madison and continued his baseball career at Ferrum College. Later he graduated from JMU with a Bachelors in Business. He then went on to work at Madison Wood for 42 years before retiring, building a respected career and lifelong friendships.

Outside of work, Jack found joy and peace in his garden and woodworking- always creating, always cultivating. He also had a love for worship and was a member of Fairview Christian Church of Hood. Jack’s quiet strength, hardworking nature, and love for his family defined the way he lived his life.  

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Jack’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Fairview Christian Church.  

Jack will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to God and those he loved.
