Wilma Katharine Potts Sedner

Mrs. Wilma Katharine Potts Sedner of Madison, VA, was born on October 28, 1939, in Phoenix, NY, to the late Caleb and Frances Potts. She passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the age of 86.

Wilma graduated from Phoenix High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, George Nelson Sedner, Sr., on July 25, 1959. They lived in and around Phoenix and Oswego, NY, until moving their family to Madison, VA, in July 1972.

Wilma was an avid seamstress who enjoyed making and mending all kinds of clothing, especially for her granddaughters. She worked for Blue Bell/Wrangler in Madison for many years, serving as a supervisor until the company closed.

Wilma joined Good Hope Baptist Church in Aroda, VA, in 1972 and was an active member for many years. During her time there, she served in the Adult Choir, taught Children’s Sunday School, led the GAs, worked in the nursery, and served on several committees. She was most recently a member of Rapidan Baptist Church in Wolftown, VA.

Wilma is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, George Nelson Sedner, Sr., of Madison, VA; four children, George Sedner, Jr., of Orange, VA; Cheryl Lohr (Scotty), of Aroda, VA; Debbie Cowan (Mike), of Severn, MD; and Lisa Horn (Steve), of Madison, AL; seven grandchildren, Dana Lohr (Brian), of Aroda, VA; Kenneth Lohr (Christina), of Aroda, VA; Eve Cowan (Eric), of Parkville, MD; David Cowan, of Pittsburgh, PA; Michelle Hatfield (Zech), of Glen Burnie, MD; Kayley Mattson (Zak), of Ft. Bragg, NC; and Courtney Horn, of St. Joseph, MO; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joy Patterson and Eleanor Sedner.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Sedner.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont, Angels Carriage, and Rapidan Baptist Church for their loving care and support.

A family night and visitation will be held at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison, VA, on Monday, August 31st, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Preddy Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 1st, at 10:00 a.m., with a graveside service to follow at Good Hope Baptist Church.
