William Harrison (Billy) Mitchell

William Harrison (Billy) Mitchell, 93 of Madison, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 at his home. He was born on April 9, 1929 to the late Benjamin Harrison Mitchell and Myrtle Houff Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Emily M. Chapin, Doris M. Berry, and Nell Jean Berry.

Billy was a part of the Madison County Public Schools as an educator, coach, administrator, and student for 65 years. He coached football, baseball, and boys' and girls' basketball. He played professional baseball in the Detroit Tigers baseball organization. Billy serviced in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a lifelong member of Rose Park United Methodist Church. He was a wonderful loving and caring husband and father. The impact Billy Mitchell made on Madison County is immeasurable.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Jane Utz Mitchell; daughter, Marty Virginia Mitchell; sons, William Dale Mitchell and Robin G. Mitchell and wife Dayna; brother, James Garland Mitchell and wife Janet; sister, Carol M. McHale; grandchildren, Bree C. Mitchell and Calvin H. Mitchell.

The funeral service will be private.
