Vivian Monger Michael

Vivian Lynn Monger Michael passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Vivian was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on December 14, 1959 to the late Floyd Weaver and Virginia Vivian Alger Monger. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1978, attended Blue Ridge Community College, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business & National Rural Electric Cooperative Association MIP Select Program. On December 14, 1979, she married Donald "Donnie" Michael Jr and they later had two children, a daughter, Arielle Michael Solie, and a son, Dennis Aaron Michael, who unfortunately preceded Vivian in death. The family later grew with the addition of a son-in-law, Matthew Solie, whom Vivian loved as her own, beloved grandchildren Michaela Morris (husband James) and Amelia "Mia" Solie, and a treasured great grandson, Asher Morris.

Vivian was the youngest of ten children, and family was the most important thing to her. Whether that was her actual family, or her work family, both were large, valued, and important. Vivian worked at a few businesses in the Shenandoah Valley area over the years, including the Elkton Pizza Hut, The Valley Banner, Ray Carr Tires, and Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative. When the family moved to Madison, Virginia, she also worked part-time at Plow & Hearth. Vivian took so much pride in taking care of both her family and her work family. Countless hours were spent with both, dedicated to helping anyone with anything at anytime to the best of her ability. It's no surprise that some of her favorite things to do were to attend family gatherings, cook, read, play cards, and cheer on her granddaughters in their various athletic endeavors. Over the years as she struggled with her health, her attendance at these events in-person was not possible, but she enjoyed keeping up with her extended family on social media, and faithfully cheered from afar and watched every recorded athletic event for her granddaughters.

Vivian is survived by her husband Donnie, daughter Arielle and her husband Matthew, granddaughter Michaela and her husband James, granddaughter Amelia, great grandson Asher; sisters Loyce Hensley, Wanda "Susie" Knicely (Charlie), Janet Secrist (Eddie), Debbie Correa (Joe); brothers Larry Monger (Judy), Philip Monger; sister-in-law Vivian Monger; nieces Susan Workman, Sharon Lewis, Tracey Breeden (Tony), Amy Monger, Melissa Knicely (Daryl), Rhonda Monger (Adam), Stephanie Monger, Karen Reeder (Tom), Ashleigh Fulk (Travis), Bellamy Monger (Brooke), Lindsey McCloy (Jake), Emily Correa; nephews Jeff Hensley (Donna), Neil Monger (Carla), Mark Monger (Pam), Wesley Monger, Michael Secrist (Christina), Shannon Secrist (Julianne), Brad Monger (Crissy), Josh Monger (Tanya), and Jonathan Correa; numerous great and great great-nieces and nephews; cousins; mother-in-law Patricia Cook, and brother-in-law Christopher Cook (Tasha).

In addition to her parents and son, Dennis, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald Monger and Ray Monger; sister Linda Monger; sisters-in-law, Jerry Monger and Mary Jane Monger; brother-in-law, Warren Hensley; nephews, Jake Hensley, Greg Hensley, Brian Hensley; great nephews, Nathan Moubray, Christopher Jerrells; father-in-law Donald Michael Sr, and step-father-in law Virgil Cook.

In keeping with Vivian's wishes, there will be no services, however she did want to share a poem entitled "I Wish You Enough."

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting. I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest joys in life may appear bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye." - Bob Perks.
