Shirley Marie Berry, 84 of Madison, beloved wife, mother, and Nannie, passed peacefully into her eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on May 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving and devoted husband and children. Shirley was born on July 6, 1941, in Orange County, Virginia. On March 20, 1959, she married the love of her life, Charles K. “Buddy” Berry. Shirley and Buddy celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in March of this year.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Tamala Layne Berry. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Katie N. Collins, eleven brothers, and one sister.

She is survived by her husband and best friend Buddy, daughters, Rene Berry Bowman (Jim) and Melida Berry Neal (Carl), and sons, Bryan Berry (Anne), and Andrew Berry (Christina); 9 grandchildren, Samantha D. Lambert (Jeff), Rachael Lacy Gunn (Eddie), Allyson Lacy Wallace (Zakery), Jamie K. Jarrard (Shawn), David C. Harner (Christina), Kenner B. Berry, Zachary R. Berry (Elisabeth), Walker L. Berry (Miranda) and Delaney E. Berry; 7 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Anna Lambert, Novaleigh and Weston Harner, Willa Jean Jarrard, Dawson and Colton Berry and an 8th great-grandchild expected in September. She is also survived by a sister, Joan Haley (Larry), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a faithful member of Rapidan Baptist Church in Wolftown, Virginia. She was the pianist for over 50 years and directed the adult and children’s choirs, and provided music for the community VBS. She loved to travel, especially to Oregon and Alaska. She also loved long weekend drives with her family, always stopping for Cokes and a pack of Nabs! She loved visiting her many friends and especially loved sitting on her front porch swing reading her Bible, chatting with friends and family, and watching the clouds and sunsets.

A memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Rapidan Baptist Church in Wolftown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911, and/or to Greene Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing, Memory Care Unit 300, 355 William Mills Drive, Stanardsville, Virginia 22973. The family would like to extend their warmest thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Hospice of the Piedmont and to the loving and compassionate staff, nurses, and CNAs of the Memory Care Unit at Greene Acres for the wonderful care they provided.
