Sarah Laverne Shotwell, 84 of Syria, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at her residence. She was born February 19, 1938 to the late Bivan Utz and Lillian Brown Utz Nicholson and wife of the late Hall Thompson Shotwell. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Buddy Utz.

Laverne retired from the Madison County School System after 40 plus years of service.

She is survived by a son, Danny Shotwell; three daughters, Connie Knighting and husband Joey, Nancy Shotwell and Gail Shotwell, all of Syria; two sisters, Joyce Lenox of Fredericksburg and Judy Seale of Madison, two grandchildren, James Shotwell and partner Christopher Weightman and Brittany Weakley and boyfriend Benji Morris; and one great-grandchild, Jordyn Morris.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with Pastor Dan Yowell and Jimmy Murray officiating. Interment will be in the Criglersville Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
