Ruth Jane Blankenbaker

Ruth Jane Blankenbaker, 82, of Brightwood, Va., passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026. She was born on May 14, 1944, to the late Rufus Taylor Blankenbaker and Jessie Clore Blankenbaker. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jesse “J. R.” Rufus Blankenbaker.

Jane was loved by many and was a loving mother to her son, Jodie. She had a genuine care for others and was always willing to give of herself to help those around her.

For several decades, Jane and Odie “O. B.” Smith, Jr. operated a successful logging business in Madison County, with the help of their son. Through her family, her work, and her faith, Jane touched many lives. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Jodie Smith; sister-in-law, Ginger Blankenbaker of Stanley, Va.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, with interment in Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Gary Utz will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
