Roger Lee Taylor, 68, of Mineral, Virginia, died ten years ago on April 15, 2016, at his residence. Born July 23, 1947, in Page County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Cecil and Tida Mae Jenkins Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Cecil, Jr., Woody, Ronald, Peter, Bobby, Alfred, Reubin, and Jimmy Taylor; and his sister, Geneva Jenkins.
After attending Montgomery Blair High School, Roger joined the Army, where he was stationed in both Washington state and Belgium. He also met and married Betty Jenkins, with whom he had two sons, Kevin Taylor of Louisa and Keith Taylor of Lake Anna. While in the Army, he fought in the Vietnam War until 1971.
Roger would later join and become a Sergeant for the National Guard, during which time he would have the pleasure of cooking for Ronald Reagan. He was also good friends with the award-winning actress, Goldie Hawn.
Of Roger’s many interests, he was a big fan of both the Washington Redskins and the University of Maryland football teams, as well as a devoted Bluegrass Fan.
Roger is survived by his former wife, Betty Jenkins, and their two children, Keith and Kevin Taylor; his sister, Frances “Fran” Taylor of Maryland; his brothers, Elwood Taylor of Maryland, and Charles Edward Taylor of Maryland; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom he loved very dearly. He is missed by everyone.
Roger was interred at Culpeper National Cemetery on April 20, 2016.
