Robin Dae Newman, 73, beloved wife and mother, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026.
She was born on October 22, 1952, and grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Robert Reilly and Margaret Reilly and sister of Andrew Reilly. She is survived by her two daughters, Heather King and husband Jason King of Kents Store, VA, and Holly Newman and fiancé John Fox of Aylor, VA.
Robin attended CW Post College on Long Island and graduated with high honors with a degree in art history. She married the love of her life, Cornelieus Newman of Huntington, Long Island, on May 17, 1976, and together, they owned an antique store there, eventually moving to the Charlottesville area to raise a family in a rural place they both loved.
Robin was a folk artist whose finely detailed, creative floor mats, paintings, murals and crafts cheerfully depict many local farms (and people) in Central Virginia and Long Island. She loved her dogs and trained her dogs in agility and scent-training, and she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family from all walks of life–artists, dog and horse friends, and many neighbors. Her annual cookie party was a favorite for many of us.
Most especially, she was always supportive of her daughters in helping them to fulfill their dreams–and she was a proud Pony Club mom.
Robin is beloved and will be missed very deeply by her daughters, family, and friends.
Services will be held at Hebron Lutheran Church in Madison, VA, on May 23 at 11 am. Please bring your favorite homemade cookies to share (Mom loved a cookie party!)
In lieu of flowers, and because mom was an avid gardener, Holly and Heather will be planting memorial gardens for her–if you are a gardener, bring seeds, bulbs, or plants from your own garden to share so that her life (and love) will live on. Or buy a piece of local art for yourself to treasure and “keep her in your heart for a while”.
