Robert Garrett

Robert Lee Garrett, Sr., passed away with his loving wife by his side on April 26, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born September 27, 1932, to James and Nellie Grey Ratcliffe Garrett in Orange County, VA. Bob served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 in Anchorage, Alaska, where they welcomed their first child, Robert Lee Garrett, Jr. Bob went on to have a 40 year career with the phone company in Orange and retired in 1995.

He is survived by his lifelong bride of 73 years, Peggy Yancey Garrett; sons, Robert Lee Garrett, Jr. (Bonnie), Randall E. Garrett (Robin), and Gary Crumpler (Vickie). He and Peggy also raised one of their grandsons, John Stankewicz, as their own, who was considered more a son than a grandson. In addition to John, he is survived by three other grandchildren, Kristin Wentland (Matthew), Lauren Murchison (Tyler), Ryan Garrett; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Nancy Crumpler. He was preceded in death by his parents and two children, Brenda Garrett Stankewicz and Ronald Garrett; brothers, Patrick, Jimmy, Sherman, Sonny; and a sister, Mary Jenkins. Bob was a devoted member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Through years of faithful service, he became an integral part of the church’s ministry and service to the community. His steadfast faith enriched his life with compassion, humility and love.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Friday, May 1, at Preddy Funeral Home in Orange with interment at Graham Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
