Nathaniel (Nate) Elijah Scott Sr. (85) years old, peacefully passed away March 18, 2026, at home in Locust Grove, VA, surrounded by his family. Born on July 31st, 1940, in Covington, Va., to the late Herman Elijah and Mamie Ella (Johnson) Scott. He's predeceased by his siblings Charles Herman, Annie Mae, Dorothy Roberta, Lucille Alice, Joe Louis, Betty Jean, and Carolyn Lynn. He was the last surviving family member.
Nathaniel was educated at Watson Elementary and Watson High School, where he met his "high school sweetheart," Shirley. He later attended Virginia State University, where he studied Auto Mechanics. He then married his best friend and love of his life of (63) blissful years to Shirley Marie (Quarles) Scott. In 1961, they moved to Asbury Park, NJ, to embark on building a new life and beginning a family of their own. They became lifelong members at Second Baptist Church, Asbury Park, where he served as a Deacon, Usher, and Church Bus Driver.
He worked a full-time and part-time job for 35 yrs at Nestle's Nescafé on the Production line and as a Mechanic at Sears, where he retired from both jobs in 2001. Nate was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle. In his free time, he enjoyed working in the yard, watching football, and baseball(Yankees). When his granddaughters, Kiana and Kayla, spent their Summer breaks in NJ, their Pop Pop would take them fishing and always ended their outings by purchasing Slurpees from 7-11. He took great pride in watching his grandson, Timothy Wright, play collegiate football at Rutgers University and then going pro in the NFL when he experienced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Super Bowl to see Tim win the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2016. Nate always looked forward to spending his vacations going to Convington to spend time with his family and being able to fish with his father and help with any home repairs, yard work at his parents' home, and the home of his in-laws.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Shirley (Shelly), three children, Cheryl Ann Wright, Nathaniel Elijah Scott Jr., and Theresa Lynn Scott; 3 grandchildren, Timothy (Jodi), Kiana, Kayla and 3 great grandchildren Major, Maison, and Skylar and affectionately Maximus Douglas as well as a host of nieces and nephews and (great)..
