Maxwell E. Lacy, Jr. of Oak Park, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026.
He was born in Charlottesville on January 21, 1940, to the late Maxwell E. Lacy and Anna Goodall Lacy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Janice Utz Lacy.
He is survived by his wife Frances Kloker Lacy; his son Alan Lacy and wife Melanie, his son Mark Lacy; his grandchildren, William Maxwell Lacy, Cassity Elizabeth Lacy, and Christine Kennedy Babbin; his sister Alice Ann Ford and husband Tommy; and his niece Lacy Ann Henshaw and nephew Tom Will Ford.
Max faithfully served as the postmaster of Oakpark Post Office for 37 years, continuing a proud family tradition established by his father, grandfather, and great-great-grandmother. He will be remembered for his deep love of family, history, baseball, and devoted service to his community.
Max gave generously of his time and talents to many organizations, including Madison Jaycee Boosters, Madison Youth Sports, Habitat for Humanity, Mt. Zion Men’s Group, Madison Farmers’ Market, Beulah Land Quartet, and the Madison County Historical Society. In 2014, he became president of the Madison County Historical Society. His leadership helped advance the society’s involvement in the Blue Ridge Heritage Project, honoring those displaced during the creation of Shenandoah National Park. Through his dedication, he also helped lead efforts to erect a chimney monument and open the Mountain Museum in Criglersville, Virginia, leaving a lasting tribute to the region’s history and people.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Preddy's Funeral Home in Madison at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date.
