Mary "Pat" Patricia Roberts

Mary Patricia Roberts, better known as Pat Roberts, was born on May 18, 1943, and died on September 14, 2026, around 4:30 PM in the afternoon. She leaves behind her husband, James “Jim” Roberts; her daughter and business partner, Sherry Spencer; her three sons, Brian Ward, Chris Ward, and Dan Ward; as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pat Roberts was well known as the “flower lady” in Madison County and in the greater Charlottesville area. She and her daughter were partners in a widely known wedding and event florist called Southern Blooms, which Pat started in 1986 as Pat’s Floral Designs.

Pat was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, and grew up outside Atlanta, Georgia, where she met her first husband and had her three sons. She remarried in 1973 to Jim, who was also the father of three boys, Kenneth Roberts, James Roberts, and Michael Roberts. They all shared time together in a tiny log house in the mountains of Tennessee - she often said she left her heart in that cabin in Hoot Owl Hollow. In 1976, they moved to Jeffersonville, Vermont, where they lived for five years. In 1981, they were transferred to Manassas, Virginia, but they could not imagine living in the city, so they drove all the way out to Madison County, where they found an old house to restore. In 1986, Pat bought the flower business, and around the same time they bought another old log house to restore in Greene County, VA, where they resided until 2019. They moved back to Madison County in 2019 to be closer to the business and their daughter Sherry, her husband Nick, and their daughter Jordan.

Pat’s biggest legacy was her family, who meant so much to her, and she is so very proud of each and every one of her children, stepchildren, and grandchildren. She has taught them many things, but mostly a passion for life, love of family, and absolutely the talent of cooking and baking! Thanksgiving was her absolute favorite holiday when all her family was close by, enjoying amazing food together, and sharing memories.

The family will be planning a memorial service to be scheduled during Thanksgiving week in her honor.
