It is with profound love and deep sorrow that we commemorate the remarkable life of Mary Louise Carter, who departed this world on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Hospice House of Piedmont in Charlottesville, Virginia. Born on April 6, 1936, in Albemarle County, Mary Louisewas the cherished daughter of Alice and James Winkie.

Mary Louise's life was a testament to strength, kindness and unwavering devotion to her family. She now joins her beloved husband, Clearance Carter, and her dear sisters, Katherine Carter, Joan Jackson, and Ruth Jackson, as well as her brother, Harry Winkie, in eternal rest. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving brother, James Winkie and sister-in-law, Nora Rose Henderson, Sally Carter, Darlene Carter, and Wanda Jackson - her spirit lives on in the hearts of her living children; Deloris Johnson of Alexandria, Clearance E Carter of Gordonsville, and Elva Trice of Newport News, Virginia.

Mary Louise was a devoted grandmother whose nurturing heart touched the lives of her grandchildren; Tammie and Mark Carter, Barbara and Brian Johnson, Paul and Ronald Carter, Chris and Sade' Carter, CJ and Anthony Jackson as well as Matthew, Jonathan, and Isiah Trice.Her family tree continues to flourish with the joy of numerous great-grandchildren, eachcarrying a piece of her enduring love. One special friend though thick and thin, Shirley Robinson.

Mary Louise Carter's legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and family unity. Her gentle presence and wise counsel will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her life, the memories she created, and the love she gave so freely.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all.

For all those whose lives she touched, there will be a celebration of life at 1:00 pm, July 6, 2026 at Union Baptist Church in Gordonsville, with Charles F. Lewis, Jr. officiating. Interment will be private at a later date.

 Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville assisted the family with arrangements.
