Marques Lamont Davis, of Barboursville, passed away on December 30, 2025 at the age of 44. He was born on August 26, 1981 in Elizabethton, TN to the late Gregory Davis and Pearl Esther Machen Davis. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Matthew and Cynthia Davis, M.D. and Ola Mae Machen, and his nephew, Onyx Cabbell.
Marques was a member of the Blue Run Baptist Church, where he played drums and sang in the youth choir. Marques graduated from Albemarle High School, where he played football and participated in track & field. He also had a love of bowling and would participate in leagues. Marques worked in several different fields, from the Post Office to Sheetz, before becoming an Operations Manager at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Zion Crossroads. He worked as the warehouse manager for several companies, including Food Lion, Trader Joes, Dollar General, and Chewy.com. He enjoyed mentoring his staff and in turn they held him in high regard.
Most importantly, Marques was a loving and devoted father to his 3 beloved children, with whom he enjoyed taking trips to fun places like Hershey Park and Dave & Buster’s. He took great pride in being a dad and getting to watch them grow. He also enjoyed being “The Fun Uncle” to his nephews. Marques was a lifelong basketball and football fan, choosing the Washington (Redskins) Commanders. Marques was an avid collector of all things Superman. He had a love of fast and exotic cars, perfectly crafting his dream Honda Civic hatchback before delving into the luxury brands. Marques was probably most known for his love of Air Jordan shoes, and took great pride in his extensive collection with coordinating Polo shirts and Washington Nationals hats.
In 2017, Marques suffered from a stroke that many doctors said should have left him a vegetable. He fought back against a body that tried to imprison him to regain his ability to walk, talk, and even drive. In 2024, Marques received a kidney transplant that allowed him to really regain a big part of his life. While his body didn’t recover fully to where he wanted it, Marques didn’t let that stop him from continuing to experience life. He traveled to Ecuador, took a Cruise to the Caribbean, and was beginning to fill his passport. Marques made many friends throughout his different phases of life, making sure others felt welcomed.
He is survived by his children, Kyra Davis, Dominic Davis, and Kaylee Davis, his sisters, Olacynth Cabbell and Cadessa Davis, brother-in-law BJ Cabbell, nephew Beau Cabbell, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He has left us far too soon and will be deeply missed and will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Blue Run Baptist Church in Somerset. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 10 to 11 am at the church. The interment will follow at the Davis Family Cemetery in Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to The BridgeLine to help adults with brain injuries at https://www.thebridgeline.org/support/ or the National Kidney Foundation here
