Marilyn Joanne Przybocki (nee Wessel), 92, of Gordonsville, died on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Our Lady of Peace in Charlottesville.
Marilyn was born on October 8, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Walter Henry Wessel and Marie Elizabeth Wessel. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She studied ballet as a young woman, and taught ballet lessons as a young adult to her coworkers at Michigan Bell in Detroit. She later married Ted Przybocki, and they lovingly built their family in Clinton Township, Michigan. While raising their five children, she became the first member of her family to attend college. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Oakland University, later working as a communications professional at Health Alliance Plan in Southfield, Michigan. Marilyn and Ted eventually moved to Gordonsville, building a house in the woods outside of town. She was deeply religious and had a good sense of humor. She loved to entertain her family and friends. She enjoyed exploring the many historic sites in Virginia. While in Gordonsville, Marilyn was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Orange, and was active in the church choir. She also served as the bookkeeper for Gordonsville Area Medical Center for 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted M. Przybocki, Sr. of Gordonsville; two sisters, Shirley Wessel and Beverly Mertz; and her grandson, Andreas Dinopoulos. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Cynthia Preston of Gainesville, Florida, and Mary Cox and her husband, David, of Stony Point; three sons, Ted M. Przybocki, Jr. and his wife, Jill, of Bluffton, South Carolina, Pete Przybocki of Canton, Michigan, and Tom Przybocki of Orange; four grandchildren, Nicholas Reeve, Kellar Cox, Kevin Cox, and Alec Przybocki; and three great-grandchildren, Xander Reeve, Adam Reeve, and Thad Reeve.
A welcome reception for Marilyn’s family, friends, associates, and caregivers will be held in the vestibule of St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church, 14414 St. Isidore Way, Orange, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 12, immediately followed by Mass. Lunch will be served at 12 noon in the St. Isidore parish hall, followed by interment at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn’s name can be made to St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Orange or Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville.
