In Loving Memory of Margaret Marie Lamb

Margaret Marie Lamb of Orange County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, in Greene County. She was born on November 10, 1945, to the late Haywood and Maxine McDaniel of Orange, Virginia.

Margaret, affectionately known as “Ms. Lamb” to generations of students, retired from the Orange County School Department of Transportation after more than 40 years of faithfully driving her school bus. For countless children, she was more than a bus driver— she was a familiar and caring presence who became a cherished part of their school years.

Between bus runs, Margaret could often be found at Jean’s Cafe in Orange, where she spent her time doing what came naturally to her: cooking and feeding people. As many in the community would say, Margaret was always cooking enough to feed half the county. Her love of food, family, and fellowship was one of the many ways she showed her love for others.

Margaret was always a force to be reckoned with. She possessed a remarkable resilience and strength that carried her through life and left an enduring impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her strength, determination, humor, and love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched, especially those of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Haywood and Maxine McDaniel; her son, David Wayne Morris; and her siblings, Jean Brown, Grant McDaniel, and Tony McDaniel.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her siblings, Barbara Cook, Earl McDaniel and his wife Sue, and Betty McGhee; her daughter, Frances Ann and her husband Lee Dovel; her son, William Paul Lamb Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Chris Greene, David’s wife; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Margaret will be deeply and dearly missed by her family, friends, former students, and the hometown community of Orange County. Though her presence is no longer with us, the love she gave, the lives she influenced, and the memories she created will remain for generations to come.

A celebration of Margaret’s life is being planned for early November, giving family and friends an opportunity to come together to remember, honor, and celebrate a life so dearly cherished.
