Lillian Yancey Hughes

Lillian “Lil” Ann Yancey Hughes, 85, of Jefferson Street, Orange, VA, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Lil was born on November 4, 1940, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Edward Thomas Yancey and Ruth Sizemore Yancey of Clarksville, VA. She is also predeceased by her husband, Donald Lee Hughes of Orange, VA; three brothers, Robert Yancey, William Yancey, and Frederick Yancey; and sister-in-law, Claudia Hughes of Newport News, VA.

Lil was a retired Orange County school teacher, an avid baker and reader, played the piano by ear, and loved singing in the choir. She attended the Orange Baptist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church.

Lil is survived by, a daughter Laura Ruth Hughes and Nathan Eaans; a son Rev. Dr. Mark E. Hughes and wife Kelly of Sutherland, VA; three grandchildren Stephen Hughes, Rachel Manvell and husband Jacob, and Daniel Hughes; brother Richard Yancey of Clarksville, VA.; two sisters, Evelyn Brinkley of Florence, SC, and Linda Hoblitz and husband Dennis of South Boston, VA; sister-in-law Phyllis Smith of Orange, VA; many nieces and nephews; and two dogs, Hershey and Bailey.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange, with Rev. Philip Hong officiating. Interment will be in the Graham Cemetery, Orange. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Preddy Funeral Home, 250 W. Main Street, Orange, VA, 22960.
