Lacy Wise Garrison Jr.

August 19, 1951 — March 31, 2026

Madison

Lacy Wise Garrison, Jr., known and loved by many names, L.W., Dubby, Dubs, L-Double, Paw-Paw, and Dad, passed from this life into eternal glory on March 31, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family. Born in Charlottesville, Virginia, he made his home in Madison, Virginia, where he lived a life defined by hard work, selflessness, and an unshakeable love for his family.
Lacy served his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1973, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He carried that same sense of duty and integrity with him throughout the rest of his life.
After his service, Lacy built a career, co-founding L&R Construction, alongside his brother and best friend, Ricky. Lacy specialized in steel and welding, and he brought the same precision and pride to his craft that he brought to every corner of his life.
At home, Lacy had many hobbies and interests. You might find him in his woodshop, creating treasured pieces, often from nothing more than a simple picture and an idea. His craftsmanship was meticulous, his standards high, and his talent undeniable. He had a rare gift for creating pieces that were not only functional, but lasting works of art. Today, so many of us live surrounded by his legacy, from a simple cutting board to entire buildings, each one a reflection of his care, pride, and attention to detail.
You might also find him in his garden, or riding his John Deere across the lawn that he tended with the utmost care. He loved a walk around “the property” with his wife. He loved the beach, UVa sports, and more than anything, watching his children and grandchildren grow. He was a proud dad and Paw-Paw in every sense of the word and a devoted husband and provider who made sure his family was always cared for. His love extended far beyond his own home, as many others came to know him as a steady, guiding presence; a surrogate father who showed up, gave support, and made people feel like they belonged.
Those who knew Lacy knew they were in the presence of someone rare. He was laid-back and easy-going, the kind of man who never needed to be the loudest in the room. He was loyal and trustworthy to his core, funny, and a teller of tall tales that kept everyone leaning in. Beneath every joke was a man who was deeply compassionate, utterly selfless, and quietly proud of everything and everyone he loved. He had a way of making you feel special, of bringing out the best in you, whether it was through hard work, quiet encouragement, or simply the way he treated people. He was, in every sense, a man’s man; the kind you don’t come across often, and never forget.
Lacy is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Partridge Garrison; his daughters, Faith Garrison (Lloyd Wilson), Candice Garrison (Bryan Mathes), and Charity Wolf; his stepsons, Patrick Partridge (Jessica), Christopher Partridge (Shannon), and Stephen Partridge; and his first wife and mother of his daughters, Susan Garrison Frazier. He leaves behind ten grandchildren: Rylie Williams, Todd Michael Williams, Garrison Grant Williams, Adrienne Wolf, Ava Garrison, Bridgette Wolf, Bruce Wolf, Griffin Stacklyn, Micah Partridge, and Bodhi Partridge; two great-grandchildren, Keilani Costes and Kaia Costes; and his brother Ricky Garrison (Vicky), with whom he shared a bond that was something truly special. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Betsy Johnson, Rick, Nick, Adam, and Alayna Garrison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne Jane Garrison and Lacy Wise Garrison, Sr. and his step-father, Melvin Leo Garrison, Sr.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Preddy's Funeral Home in Madison, Virginia.
