June Isabelle Dunaway

June Isabelle Dunaway, 78, of Orange, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026.

Born on May 17, 1947, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Armond Joseph and Cecile Virginia Isabelle. June was a proud graduate of Lane High School, Class of 1965.

Throughout her career, June was known for her dedication and her heart for service. She started her career performing data entry at The University of Virginia Hospital. Later, June brought her warmth and energy to the residents of Dogwood Nursing Home and served as the Activities Director in Orange for over 35 years. June enjoyed supporting the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Gordonsville Baptist Church Choir, and in retirement, the Orange County Visitor Center. Her ability to bring joy to others through her work left a lasting impact on many lives in the community.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, A. Wayne Dunaway; and their son, Joseph E. Dunaway and his wife, Kimberly S. She was the cherished "Ahma" to her three grandchildren, Colby J., Cicely A., and Corynne S. and fiancé Zachary C. Salter. June also leaves behind her sister, Roberta I. Harlowe and her husband, William W.. Her memory will also be treasured by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville. Visitation for family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery in Troy, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the Dunaway family requests donations to be made in honor of June to the Memory Disorders Program designation within UVA Health Neurological Programs.
