Jolene Green

Beverly Jolene Green, 98, of Charlottesville, departed this life peacefully with family at her side on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Our Lady of Peace in Charlottesville.

Jolene was born July 27, 1928, to the late Everett H. and M. Louise Fenimore Coddington of Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest E. Sandifar, Jr., second husband, Melvin K. Green Sr., daughter, Deborah G. Thorsell, and sister, Marita Lovell.

On June 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Melvin K. Green Sr., who was a Lieutenant in the Marine Corps at the time.

Surviving her are six of her seven children, Phoebe G. Shaia and husband Frank, Teresa G. Hall and husband Harry, Melvin K. Green, Jr. and wife Ailene, Angela Mossbarger, Stanislaus M. Green and wife Ann, and Patricia G. Austin. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, Kristina and Jason Lawrence, Rebekah McClung, Matthew Shaia, Rachel Crosse, and Ruth Thompson; Heather Tidwell and Christopher Johnson; Tiffany Henderson, Whitney Faris, Adrianna and Savannah Green; Katie Mossbarger, Jesse Mossbarger; Raymond and Beverly Zwiger and Joshua Green; and sixteen great grandchildren Brandon Lawrence, Shaia, Saffronia, and Cyrus McClung, Raegan, Olivia, and Caroline McLellan, Maia Crum, Addyson Johnson, Austin Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, Justin Lewis, Jr., Kaylee and Karsen Green, Jacob Lawrence, Leila and Lyle Thompson, Kiara Holden, Grace Faris, Jack Henderson, Aaliyah Holden, and Elizabeth Henderson, and Adonis Holden. She is also survived by one sister, Diane McCoy. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

She was an active member of Holy Comforter Catholic Church, Charlottesville, for 38 years. She also participated in the Outreach Program through the church. She also participated in the sacristans.

She was an active member of the Catholic churches she attended during her husband’s assignment in the Marine Corps. She was a member of several clubs: President Officers’ Wives Club, American Red Cross, Gray Ladies, Orange Business and Professional Women’s Club, President of Orange Retail Merchants Association, Orange Woman’s Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and she enjoyed being the owner and manager of Little Fifth Avenue Shop in Orange for seventeen years.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church, 14414 St. Isidore Way, Orange, Va. 22960. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family.
