John Douglas McLain

John Douglas McLain, a lifelong resident of Madison County, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. He was born in July 1950 to the late Margaret Ferrell McLain and John Wilson McLain.

JD enjoyed the natural world and the simple pleasures of life. He knew the farms and mountains of Madison County well and spent much of his life connected to the land.

JD appreciated good music, good company, and a good drink, and he was always happy to have a reason to celebrate. He also found joy in quieter moments spent with Rose, surrounded by nature and the people and animals he loved.

John Douglas is survived by his beloved wife, Rose; his daughters, Anna Bea and Margeaux; and two brothers, Bates and Ferrell; and grandchildren, James and Ian .

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
