John Crigler, 72, of Madison, Virginia, passed away on June 16, 2026, at The Harbor in Stanardsville, Virginia.
He was born on December 19, 1953, in Charlottesville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Sarah Crigler, and sister, Jane Crigler Spivey.
John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Carpenter Crigler; daughter Leslie DeBrosse (Mark); son Nicholas (Liz); daughter Laura (Seth); and grandchildren, Cora, Alexandra, Hans, Edward, and Alana; sisters Pamela Nelson (Jim), Ann Fondren (Robert); many nieces and nephews; and father-in-law, Bob Carpenter.
John graduated from Virginia Tech in 1979 with a BS in Civil Engineering, and in 2010 was recognized as a member of the Virginia Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni. He worked for 46 years for what is now the Structural Group in Columbia, Maryland. He was a member of the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI), American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI), the American Concrete Institute, and the Society of Civil Engineers. John recently returned to Crigler’s Brookside Farm in Madison. He always loved being at the farm, working on machinery, making furniture, and racing dirt bikes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
