James Bruce Vanskike

James Bruce VanSkike, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Born on July 23, 1951, in Moberly, Missouri, he was the son of the late James P. VanSkike and Lillian K. VanSkike. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Curt [Jan] Bagby of Palatine, IL.

James, known to all as Jimmy, is survived by a sister, Sharon Bagby [husband Tom deceased] of West Lafayette, IN and brother, Miles [Gloria] VanSkike, of Louisa, VA. and nieces Rachel McGhee Louisa, VA and Molly [Steve] Stilwell, Huaraz, Peru Nephews Philip [Mindy] VanSkike of Winchester, VA and Sean [Paula] Bagby of Lafayette, IN. And a wonder tribe of 12 grand nieces and nephews.

Jimmy spent most of his life as a medical nurse, with the exception of 4 years in the Navy in the early 70's. He was a committed Christian and member of Fluvanna Baptist Church in Scottsville, VA. Although many stories could be recounted of his life journey, the most important one is his journey to receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Thanks to all who provided care to Jimmy especially over these last few months. Organizations include The University of Virginia Medical Community, Morningside Assisted Living of Charlottesville, Medi Home Hospice, the Fluvanna Baptist Church family and dear friends and neighbors too numerous to mention.

The family will receive friends from 10am until 11am Monday, July 8, 2024, at Fluvanna Baptist Church with a service of celebration and burial at the church to immediately follow.
