Henry Lewis Dodson

Henry “Huckleberry” Lewis Dodson, 91 of Madison, Va. went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 10, 1933, in what is now the Shenandoah National Park, to the late James Albert Dodson and Claudia Nicholson Dodson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Beatrice Seale Dodson; sons, Melvin Dodson and Michael Dodson; brothers, William Dodson and Robert Dodson; sisters, Frances Thorpe, Ethel Beeler, Flossie Beahm, Dorothy Clatterbuck.
He was an avid farmer and lived his entire life in his beloved Madison County. He was an Army veteran and retired from Bowman Feed Company after many years of service.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Ellerbe and husband “Happy” of Novum; sons, Brian Dodson and wife Melissa of Oak Park, Troy Dodson and wife Gwen of Twyman’s Mill; daughter-in-law, Tammy Dodson; sister, Mary Gallihugh; grandchildren, Jason Dodson, Daniel “Boo” Ellerbe, Christopher Dodson, Logan Dodson, Jeremy Dodson, Megan Dodson, Bradley Dodson; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Rudy, Joe, Brandon, Ariana, Seth, Amelia, Violet, Grayson; great-great-grandchildren, Mason, Paisley, Brantly, Weston, and McKenzie.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the prayers and visits he received and to At Home Hospice Care for their compassion and care shown to him and his family.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Madison Memorial Gardens. Pastor Jeff Tucker will officiate.
