Kay Heslep Hood, 88, of Madison County, Virginia, passed away on November 15, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, GiGi, and friend. Kay lived her life full of strong faith, love, kindness, and generosity.
Kay was born on April 26, 1937 to Howard Eugene and Elizabeth Williamson Heslep. She grew up in Ronceverte, West Virginia and graduated from Greenbrier High School, attended Marshall University, and graduated from Concord College. Kay taught Health and Physical Education at Orange County High School and Prospect Heights Middle School in Orange County. She retired in 1991 from Orange County Public Schools with 30 years of service and remained for an additional 4 years as an adaptive physical education teacher. She loved her career as a teacher and truly cared about her students.
Kay was a devoted member of Rose Park United Methodist Church, Wolftown, Va. and served as president of the Women’s Group for many years.
Kay valued the importance of connection, community, and serving others. Her smile and big hug radiated her love, kindness, and welcoming nature. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, shopping, her pets, and staying active. One of her most treasured times was her annual family vacation to the Outer Banks.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Elizabeth Heslep and her brother, Howard Heslep, Jr.
Kay is survived by her husband of 60 years, William R. Hood (Bill),
Her daughters Mary Elizabeth Hood Aylor and husband Jimmy, Kama Kay Hood Price and husband Greg. She is also survived by the joys of her life, her granddaughters, Jordan Elizabeth Aylor Delauter (Collin), Kaley Dane Aylor Fincham (Cody), Kara Leigh Price Wise(Bernard), Emily Elizabeth Price(Jake); her great grandchildren
Ryann Elizabeth, Brooks Daniel, and Laine Aylor Delauter, Isla Jane and Elsie Kay Wise, and she was eagerly awaiting her 6th great grandchild Baby Fincham; and a very special nephew, Hugh Eugene Heslep (Holly).
A special recognition of gratitude to Bonnie Nicholson, Casey Taylor, Danielle Terral, Tyler Morris, Amber Shoultz and nursing staff for their exceptional care, love, and support they provided.
The family also extends sincere appreciation to Dogwood Village Rehab of Orange, The Harbor Memory Care Center in Stanardsville, Va, and Trinity Hospice Care team for their unwavering medical care, guidance, and compassion.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Rose Park United Methodist Church with interment in church cemetery. Pastor Elizabeth Petry will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Rose Park United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in Kay’s honor be made to Rose Park United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 124, Wolftown, Va 22748.
