Gladys Lancaster

Gladys May Payton Lancaster, 86, of Columbia formerly of Orange, died on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Oakhurst Health & Rehab in Fork Union, VA. Gladys was born on January 15, 1938 in Charlottesville and was the daughter of the late Wilson Howard Peyton and Ethel Lee McCauley Payton. She is also predeceased by her husband Charles William "Bill" Lancaster; a daughter Donna Lynn Lancaster; two brothers Charlie McCauley and Jack Peyton; and two sisters Nancy Lee Watson and Ethel Irene Hardy. Gladys retired after many years working for the Town of Orange administration department.

Gladys is survived by a daughter Vickie Suann Strickland and husband Rotche of Columbia; two grandchildren Clayton R. Strickland and Nathaniel L. Strickland; and two sisters Pearl Virginia Blakley of Orange and Annie Mildred Breeden of Orange.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. graveside at the North Pamunkey Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Alan Miller will officiate. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family.
