Elizabeth Shifflett Breeden, 88 of Madison, Va., passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025 at her home. Elizabeth was born on July 17, 1936 to the late James N. and Kate L. Shifflett. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Gene Dale Breeden; son, Mike Breeden; son-in-law, Dickie Nicholson; great-grandson, Dyllon West; great-granddaughter, Layla Lamb; brothers, Philip Shifflett, Jimmie Shifflett, Leon Shifflett; sister, Crystal Lamb.
Elizabeth was a devoted Christian, and she read her Bible every morning with her coffee. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was the treasurer for many years. She also taught Sunday School class for preschool age. She loved her flowers; she loved working in her flower beds and then late afternoon she and daddy would sit in their rocking chairs on the front porch enjoying their time together and looking at the mountains. She had 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She gave everyone of them their first bath when they came home from the hospital. She retired from driving a school bus for Madison County.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Nicholson, Dale Lamb, Jenifer Martin and husband Paul; daughter-in-law, Jenny Breeden; sister, Marie Cook and husband Bill; grandchildren, Inez, Faith, Pete, Shannon and husband Neil, Jeremy, J. D., Brandon, Kirt and wife Cynthia, Justin and Samatha; great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Erin, Kaylyn and husband Michael, Austin, Eli, Hailey, Lilee, Reygan, Levi, Luke, Wayland, Skyler; great-great-grandchildren, Eleyna, Wyatt, Paisleigh, Hunter.
The family would like to give special thanks to her nieces, Jeanie Marie, Becky Payton, Marhsa Gibson and special thank you to Hospice of the Piedmont.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison conducted by Rev. Perry Clore with interment in Liberty Loop Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
