Doris Lee Utz

Doris Lee Wills Utz, 85, of Barboursville, passed away at the Hospice House on Saturday, September 19, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Doris was born on July 7, 1941, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Samuel Lee Wills and Doris Snow Wills. She was a loving and devoted woman who cherished those closest to her. She worked for many years as a clothing buyer for Direct Mill Outlet before retiring as a loan officer from American General Finance Company. A friend to so many, Doris had a special way of making everyone around her feel loved and welcomed. She enjoyed playing cards with her weekly women’s group, shopping trips to Potomac Mills, cooking, decorating for the holidays, traveling to the beach, and taking trips to the casino. Above all, Doris treasured her family and friends. She was generous with her spirit and gifts, and those she loved were the greatest joy of her life. Her memory will be forever cherished.

Doris is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charlie Lee Utz, Jr., and her two sons, David and Greg. Doris was a proud mother, mentor, and best friend to her sons. She was also loved by Lisa and Janine, her two daughters-in-law, whom she loved like her own. Doris was a cherished grandmother to Kyle (Kaitlin), Adam, Eric (Brittany), and Hailey. In later years, she became a great-grandmother to Ainsley (8), Graham (6), Alex and Layton (5), Wrenley (4), and Lucy (almost 2). They were the loves of her life. She is also survived by her sister Christy Wills, her sister-in-law Doris Wills, nephews Scott Wills (Tammy and child Emma), Jimmy Wills (Candy and children Tyler and Ryan), and niece Janice Ann Chapman (TC and child Caleb). In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in her death by her brothers Sammy Kenneth Wills and Jerry Foster Wills.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville, 2620 Frays Mill Rd, Ruckersville, VA 22968. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Lindsay Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
