Donald Lucero, September 3 1934 - March 3, 2026, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Gordonsville, VA.
Donald served in the U.S. Marines and fought in the Korean War. He went on to graduate from the Colorado State University. He later worked at G. E. as an Engineer.
Don had a son (Scott) and a daughter (Lei Lani) from his first marriage. In 1987, he married his beloved wife Barbara and became a loving father to Michael (Rhonda) and Anthony (Crystal). He is also survived by a brother, Edward; a sister, Norma, and many beloved grandchildren.
While Don loved all his children, he had a very close relationship with his youngest son, Anthony, often going with him to watch mud-bogging. Donald has always had a spirit of caring for others which began with the care he gave Barbara until her passing in 2014, but his caring nature continued as he made it" his job" to care for every dog and cat that found their way to the house.
Don, loved to read, learn, write, and stay up on current events. It was not uncommon to find him taking notes, watching news, westerns, or even preaching on television and he was always interested in the weather. Donald also loved spicy food in his younger years and Reese's peanut Butter cups and ice cream in his later years. Don was also a gifted baker in his prime and was famous for his small-"only a fistful" appetite please!
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Diane Gentry, the wonderful caregiver/aide that stayed with him daily and often bought special homemade goodies to him and enjoyed spending quality time with him. She also would bring her grandson, Ryder who was always ready with a hug for Don. He always looked forward to that. And a thank you to everyone at Hospice.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2026, at Monticello Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
