Don Kenneth Heatwole

Don Kenneth Heatwole, 70, of Scottsville, Virginia passed away June 24, 2026 in Charlottesville at UVA Hospital.

Don was born on July 2, 1955 and entered the loving home of Dr. Kenneth Heatwole and Ruth Marie Kreider Heatwole.

Don was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Marie Heatwole, his wife of 38 years, Shirley Ann Heatwole, his beloved dog Sasha, and great grandson Josh.

Don is survived by his father, Dr. Kenneth Martin Heatwole; Brother Larry Heatwole; 2 sisters Joanne Billups and Carolyn Nuckols (husband Eddie); daughter Cathy Cheek and husband Timmy; son Wilmer Collier and wife Jill; Grandchildren Shane Cheek (wife Pammy), Shannon Cheek Burkholder (husband Brian), Sabrina Johnson (husband Aaron), and Bridgit Collier; Great grandchildren Bradley, Waylon, Wyatt, David, and Dallas.

Granddaddy was a kind, free spirited man. He loved reading books, watching westerns, or scrolling on his phone. Granddaddy will be missed and his kindness has left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was always there when you needed him and spent much of his life doing things to make other people happy. He loved his wife Shirley unconditionally and devoted himself to doing everything she enjoyed in life. Many of his days were spent at her grave just talking to her. On his final day he smiled frequently and said he was happy.

"I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid." -John 14.27

A graveside funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Jack Dunham at 10:00am Wednesday July 1, 2026 in Maplewood Cemetery. Preddy Funeral will be assisting the family with the funeral services.
