Clarice "Speedy" Wright

Clarice “Speedy” Vivian Sinlinger Wright, 84, of Gordonsville, Virginia, passed away on August 3, 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed. Clarice was born in Gordonsville on June 12, 1942, to the late John Scott Singerlinger and Margaret Davis Sinlinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Junior Wright and daughter-in-law Janet Garton.

She was a dedicated employee of the CSX Railroad, retiring after 35 years. She lived in Gordonsville all her life and gave back to the community in countless ways, serving as a VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary member and two-term President, a member of the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary, and a member of Gordonsville Baptist Church. She was also a member of Helping Hands Caring Hearts at the church.

Clarice is survived by her three sons, Chuck Garton (Ginger), Freddie Garton, and RJ Wright (Guayna), as well as her grandchildren, Brittany Garton (Dani), Scott Garton (Becca), Andrew Garton, Taylor Garton (Sarah), Griffin Wright, and Caroline Wright, and her great-grandchildren, Maya, Adalyn, Lucy, Johnathan, Rosey, Wesley, and Wyatt Garton.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 :00 am Saturday, August, 8, 2026 at Maplewood cemetery conducted by Rev. Jason Bird.
