Charles H. "Herb" Moncrief

Charles H. "Herb" Moncrief of Madison, passed away on Friday, October 13. 2023. He was born in Jamaica, NY on 5-29-32 to N.B. and Grace Deacon Moncrief and educated in New York Schools before moving to Silver Spring, Md. with his father after his mother died. He was one of 5 children – Jane, Tom, Richard and Henry.

He found his way to First Baptist Church in Silver Spring and his life's mate in Harriet. They were married November 19, 1960 and two children were, Jane and Charles, were born in 1966 and 1969.

As the children were growing, he pursued more accounting education at Ben Franklin School of Account and a degree in Life Office Management Association Accounting while at Acacia Mutual Life Insurance in Washington DC.

After 25 years at Acacia, he retired to Rochelle, Va. and worked for JC&G Architects and Indaco Risk Advisors.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; two children, Jane Elder and Charles Moncrief; and five grandchildren, Ester, Luke, Grace, Anne and James Elder, who he got great enjoyment from in Richmond.

He has requested no memorial service and cremation with ashes put on the flower garden on the west side of home.

A favorite charity would be a local one or the Kidney Foundation.
