With gratitude, love, and respect, we announce the passing of Charlene Rose (McGonigal) Christensen. Charlene was born on January 15th, 1954, to Robert Joseph and Grace McGonigal. She was incredibly proud of her Bronx roots and her deep Irish heritage, both of which shaped the strength, humor and spirit she carried throughout her life. Charlene married Jan D. Christensen, and together they raised their family. Though they later divorced, they shared the lasting gift of their two sons. Throughout her life, Charlene called several places home, living in New York, Utah, and most recently, Virginia.
Charlene enjoyed a distinguished career in the publishing industry that spanned more than 30 years. A true professional, she was deeply loyal to those she worked with and for, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer support to anyone in need.
Family was Charlene’s greatest source of pride. She dearly loved her two sons, Kenyon and Ryan, and was immensely proud of the men they became. She welcomed their spouses, Heather and Briana, as part of the family she cherished. She adored her grandchildren-Dylan (Kenley), Tyler, Riley, Drew, Pacey, and Laney-Mae-who brought her endless joy. She was also a beloved aunt who treasured time with her nieces and nephews and was always ready to share a laugh or make lasting memories.
Those who knew Charlene will remember her generous heart, unwavering loyalty, and the light she brought into every room. She taught those she loved to love wholeheartedly, think deeply, never give up on themselves, and always show up for others in times of need. She lived the best way she knew how, with resilience, compassion, and an open heart.
Charlene is survived by her sons, Kenyon (Heather) and Ryan (Briana); her beloved grandchildren Dylan (Kenley), Tyler, Riley, Drew, Pacey, and Laney-Mae; her siblings, Tim (Debroah) McGonigal, Keving (Kathy) McGonigal, Janice Harris, Terry McGonigial. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A celebration of Charlene’s life will be announced at a later date.
Charlene often reminded those around her to make sure the people they love know just how much they are loved. Her wish for all of us is simple: love your loved ones as though there is no tomorrow.
