Carroll Lee Bates, 85, of Cobham, Virginia departed this life on May 15, 2022 at the UVA Hospice Center (Hospice of the Piedmont) after a long illness. He was born in Barbourville, Virginia on March 6, 1937, son of the late Pinkie Anne Carter. He was a long-time member of St. John Baptist Church in Cobham, Virginia.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two loving sons, Hilearthan D. Bates (Cassandrea) of Columbia, Maryland and Donovan L. Bates of Laurel, Maryland; three grandchildren; Tiaira N. Bates of Laurel, Maryland, Te'a N. Bates of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Camryn Bates of Columbia, Maryland; two sisters, Nancy E. Bates of Cobham and Mary V. Lawson (Lawyer) of Waldorf, Maryland; niece, Denise Young: nephew, Marty Collins and host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 21, 2022 at St. John Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church. Mask are required to attend the services.
