Caitlin Stanard Unterman

Caitlin, 35, of Greta, VA, passed away suddenly on June 27, 2026. She was born on August 8, 1990, in New York, NY, to Lee Unterman and Gail Trimmer Unterman. 

After graduating from William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, VA, and Randolph College in Lynchburg, VA, she pursued a career as a science teacher. She was also an avid horse rider and trainer, even owning her own business in the field. Caitlin will be remembered for her smile and laughter, her goofy and sometimes sassy personality, her love and care of animals, her generosity towards friends, family, and students, her strong work ethic both at the school she taught and at her barn, and her desire and ability to live life to the fullest. 

Caitlin is survived by her mother, Gail Trimmer Unterman; her brother and his partner, Matthew Unterman & Elizabeth Concra; her stepmother, Julie Brown; and her uncles and aunts, William & Glenda Trimmer and Sidney & Karen Trimmer. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Unterman, and her grandparents, William & Irene Trimmer and Israel & Ruth Unterman.

A memorial service and last ride will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Grace Episcopal Church in Stanardsville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caitlin’s GoFundMe account, Lynchburg Humane Society, Pittsylvania Pet Center, or Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue.
