Brenda Judd Richards, a cherished matriarch, devoted wife, loving mother, and spirited friend,
peacefully transitioned from this life on July 9, 2026, at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene
County. Born on May 31, 1947, in Luray, Virginia, Brenda's life was an embodiment of grace,
kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Brenda's journey began under the nurturing care of her parents, Cecil and Ruth Judd, who
instilled in her the values that would guide her throughout her life. Predeceased by her beloved
parents, brother Bubby Judd, and her dear husband of 60 years, Wayne Richards, Brenda's
legacy is carried forward by her surviving family members, who continue to honor her memory
with the same love and dedication she showed them.
On June 7, 1964, Brenda married Wayne Richards, embarking on a marriage that spanned six
decades. Brenda and Wayne had one beloved son, Barry. Brenda took immense joy in her role
as a grandmother, treasuring every moment spent with her grandsons, Cory and Andrew
Richards. Her legacy of love and warmth endures in the hearts of her family, including her
sisters, Judy Koch (Dick) and Alesia Painter (Donald), sister-in-law Teresa Judd and her many
nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Brenda's professional life was marked by her dedication and work ethic. She spent over 27
years at Wrangler in Madison, where her colleagues became an extension of her family.
Afterward, she continued her career at Madison Drug Company until her retirement, always
bringing warmth and a smile to all she encountered.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of Beth Car Baptist
Church, where she found solace and community. Brenda's hobbies reflected her love for beauty
and family traditions. She had a particular passion for tending to her flowers, finding joy and
peace in their vibrant blooms. She also delighted in crafting Christmas stockings for her family,
each stitch and design a labor of love that her family will treasure for generations.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Brenda's memory to
Samaritan's Purse, a cause close to her heart. Contributions can be directed to their office in
Boone, NC.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to The Harbor Renaissance and Trinity Hospice for their
compassionate care and support. A special message from her family, inspired by Galatians 6:9,
encapsulates Brenda's life of selfless service and enduring faith: "Let us not grow weary while
doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
Brenda's life was a tapestry of love, faith, and resilience—a life well-lived and cherished by all
who had the honor of knowing her. Her spirit will forever remain a guiding light for her family and
all who were blessed to call her a friend.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 20th from 5p-7p at Preddy Funeral Home in
Madison, VA (59 Edgewood School Lane). Funeral services will be on Tuesday July 21st at
