Benjamin Latane Atkins, 80, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on Monday, November 10th, 2025, at his home. Born on September 13th, 1945, he was the son of the late Donald Leigh Atkins and Frances Anne Atkins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Atkins.
Benjamin loved his alma mater, Virginia Tech, and was a member of the Highty Tighties VPI Cadet Band. He was a skilled accountant, electrical engineer, and would help anyone who needed it with his skill sets. He was a proud Eagle Scout, amateur (ham) radio operator, loved fishing, and socializing with people at church and at the gym. He was a founding member of Lambs Road Baptist Church, where he also served as a Deacon, and was also an Elder at Maple Grove Christian Church. He loved to share a good joke and to make others smile with a persistent cheerful spirit. He was proud of his family and loved his grandkids and loved to aid others with sharing his wealth of knowledge and expertise.
Benjamin is survived by a daughter, Virginia Atkins of Charlottesville; two sons, Bart Atkins and wife, Glenda, of Charlottesville, and Wally Atkins and wife, Tamara, of Yorktown; and his grandchildren, Lauren Atkins, Jason Atkins, Logan Atkins, Derek Atkins, Heath Atkins, and Haley Joy Atkins. He is also survived by his seven siblings, Becki Moore, Lou Fuller, Anna Duffer, Malinda Ashburn, Byron Atkins, Maury Atkins and Samuel Atkins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 17th, 2025, at Northside Baptist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, at Berea Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia.
