Barbara Anne Deane Nash, 93, passed away at Dogwood Village, Orange, on October 17, 2025. She was born on November 16, 1931 in Ruckersville to the late Benjamin Franklin Deane and Ruby Harlow Deane. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Deane and Ruby Fincher, and two brothers, Benjamin F. Deane, Jr. and Theodore Deane.
Barbara was employed by Blue Bell/Wrangler for over three decades and was also known as a skilled seamstress who made wedding gowns, prom dresses, and everyday clothing. After retirement, she was devoted to helping others and sharing the bounty of the large family garden. She was an avid bird and butterfly watcher and enjoyed challenging puzzles of all kinds. Her corn pudding, green beans, turkey dressing, and coconut pies were legendary (at least to her family). She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the choir, and contributed greatly through the Hospitality Committee.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Russell E. Nash, Jr., also of Dogwood Village. In addition are two surviving sisters, Marjorie Bower and Ethel Kettlewell, and four children, Thomas Nash (Pamela), Carole Nash (John Eckman), and Janice Hoffman, and Donald Deane (Brenda). Three grandchildren, Stephen Nash (Rachael), Candia Morris (Spencer), Hubert Bare (Crystal), nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren also survive.
Special thanks go to the highly skilled caregivers at Dogwood Village. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, P. O. Box 937, Verona, Va. 24482.
A graveside service will take place at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Radiant, Va. Preddy Funeral Home in Madison is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at preddyfuneralhomes.com
