Janet Rebecca Shelton 61 of Gordonsville, VA went home to be with her Heavenly Father on November 9, 2020 after succumbing to a long brave fight against Cancer. Born July 26th, 1959 to William Floyd Lam Sr and Clara Mae Lam (Beasley) of Barboursville, VA. With an avid passion for the outdoors, flowers, gardening, southern food, people, and Jesus, she was clearly a one of a kind individual, and her inability to accept no for an answer continuously drove that point home, over and over throughout her life. Janet truly had one of the kindest hearts, always loving on and finding ways to help everyone that she encountered. She never met a stranger and if she did it didn’t stay that way for long because she adopted everyone in as her own, she was as Momma, Maw, or MawMaw, and as a result the multitudes of her “adopted” children and grandchildren will no doubt keep her loving legacy alive for years to come. Family meant everything to Jand and it showed in her actions, words, and her stories; genetic relation was merely a suggestion as far as she was concerned because her love overflowed from her heart, from a bloodline that runs much deeper than any here on Earth.

Janet is survived by her only daughter Jessica James and husband Jeremy of Gordonsville, VA; and two step-sons Brian Shelton and wife Deborah of Louisa, VA; and Charles “Scott” Shelton and wife Jennifer of Orange, VA. Eight grandchildren Sierra Shelton, Cheyenne Shelton, Dakota Shelton, Saunders, Izabella Saunders, Jeremiah James, and Ezekiel James. One God-Granddaughter Savannah Beaudet. She is also survived by her siblings Gladys “Marie” Roach McAllister and husband Sonny of Barboursville, VA; Barbara Ann Vanover of Charlottesville, VA, Audrey-Faye Lettner and husband Eddie of Orange, VA and Cecil Lam of Barboursville, VA. Her best friend Dolores Morris of Charlottesville, VA; her boyfriend Bruce Shores of Barboursville, VA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and adoptees.

Janet is preceded in death by her husband, best-friend, and soulmate Willard “Pete” Shelton, her parents William Floyd Lam Sr & Clara Mae Lam. Brothers Roger Lee Lam and William Floyd Lam JR; sister Bonnie “Sue” Johnson, grandson Caden Michael James, and best friend Janet Elaine Butler.

A Celebration of Life & Thanksgiving Dinner will be held Sunday November 22, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church, 19076 Monrovia Rd. Orange, VA 22960. Service will begin at 3PM followed by a meal directly afterwards. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made directly to the family, to Preddys Funeral Home in Gordonsville, VA to help offset Janet's funeral expenses, or that a donation to Hospice of the Piedmont be made in memory of Janet Shelton.
