Mildred Elizabeth Coleman Gaines was born on August 26, 1933, in Orange, Virginia.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Lee Gaines of 39 years.  She was one of eight children born to Simon and Carrie Brock Coleman.  She was also preceded in death by all of her siblings.  Her godson Tony often told her – God saved the best for last.  In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 16, 2024, Mildred quietly answered God’s call and departed this life on earth.

She will be dearly missed.  She leaves to mourn her memory, two loving daughters, Teresa Gaines Hamlin of Columbus, Ohio and Lisa Gaines High of Chesterfield, Virginia; two sons-in-law, Jasper Leon Hamlin and Eric High; two adored and precious grandchildren, Sean Nicholas Lee Hamlin of Houston, Texas and Deana Elizabeth Hamlin Britton and her husband Reginald of Dallas Texas; two bonus grandsons, Jonathan High-Jackson and his wife Issa of Largo, Florida and Maxwell High of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Coleman of Orange, Virginia and Rachael Palmer of Capitol Heights, Maryland; two godsons, Isaiah (Tony) Coleman, and Joseph Coleman; two devoted nieces, Cathy Tracy and Wanda Coleman, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Little Zion Baptist Church in Orange, with interment at the Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
