Michael "Mike" Douglas Critchfield              July 23, 2025

Michael “Mike” Douglas Critchfield, 75, of Vienna, Va. died at his residence on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. He was born on December 28, 1949, in Washington, D. C., and was the son of the late Roy Thomas Critchfield and Evelyn Forsee Critchfield. He was also preceded in death by his wife Tommie Lee Critchfield.

He is survived by a daughter Jamie Lee Critchfield, of Vienna, a son Stacy Michael Critchfield, and girlfriend, Sarah Daiger, of Vienna, his brothers David Critchfield and wife Judy of Dumfries, and Phillip Critchfield and wife Kathy of Belleville, PA.

Mike served in the U.S. Navy where he was assigned to the USS Thor (ARC-4) where he was responsible for maintaining USS Thor’s engineering plant. He is the recipient of a National Defense Medal and a Meritorious Commendation Ribbon. After active duty, Mike transferred to the Naval Reserves.

After leaving the Navy, Mike continued his service working for the U.S. Government where he served for 35 years as a nuclear turbine/boiler-plant engineer. At this capacity he was responsible for providing power, heating and cooling to federal buildings across the district including the White House and U.S. Capitol.  

Mike was an avid motorcyclist - both off-road and on-road, an amateur radio operator with call sign KA4BSZ, an amateur guitarist and pianist, and a huge fan of the Washington Nationals. In his free time Mike loved to read his Bible, watch the Walker Texas Ranger T.V. show, and play with his cats. Additionally, Mike was a member of the 6:30 Club that met everyday at Starbucks at 6:30 am for coffee - rain, shine, or snow. Moreover, Mike loved his caps- he was never caught without one and his favorite included his call sign.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM from Antioch Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery, with military honors. Rev. Terry Green will officiate. The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday prior to the service. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family.
