Lance William King                                    August 22, 2025

Lance William King passed away on Friday, August 22nd, 2025. Lance was born on January 19th, 1971, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Phillip Rex King and Donna Gail Stenhouse.

Lance loved being active in the community through spending time volunteering at Broadus Wood Elementary School, playing soccer for his beloved team “E-Ville City,” working hard with friends at the gym, and becoming the best friend of every person he ever met. He also loved
running, hunting with his brother Mike, motorcycling, car restoration, home renovation, and spending time with the people he loved so much.

He found God in everything he did. He would regularly stop to “behold” the incredible world around him. His fascination with wildflowers, heavy machinery, and even his own hands drew him closer to the creator daily. He relentlessly chased the Lord’s calling for him. His faith journey began in Vail, Colorado, before taking him to be a youth minister at Gayton Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, and finally led him to Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville, where he was the pastor for 19 years.

Lance always said he was really good at four things: whistling, washing dishes, parallel parking, and reading maps. He indeed excelled at those four things, but those who knew him know that the list did not stop there. He was also an exceptional listener, leader, mentor, encourager, sand castle builder, teacher, husband, father, and fun-seeker. Lance arrived at every interaction with intentionality- whether through weeks of thorough research and spreadsheet-building to craft the perfect vacation itinerary, or by showing up with grace and being fiercely present with every person in front of him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Donna Key. His memory lives on in his wife, Tonya King; his two children, Claire and Asher King; his brother Mike and wife Gwen King; his father, Phil and step mother Sammie King; his step-father, Glen and wife Pam Key; his uncle, Rob
Lengacher; and four nephews, Dillon and Camden King, as well as Ben and Sam Clark.

A service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 30th, in the field beside Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, followed by a reception. Please park nearby at Broadus Wood Elementary School; a shuttle service to the church will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, consider donating to one of the charities Lance loved so much: Habitat for Humanity, Buck Mountain Food Pantry, or giving the gift of time to tutor students at Broadus Wood Elementary School. You can also help support the things Lance had planned for the future by giving to the Chestnut Grove Long Range Planning Committee.

Condolences may be left on Lance's Memorial Page.
