Kathryn Dunkerton Brebner passed into the nearer presence of Christ on August 21, 2021 surrounded by her family. Born in West Chester, PA, on August 9,1953, Kathy spent most of her childhood in Africa where her parents served as missionaries in Kenya and Tanzania. After graduating from Rift Valley Academy, Kijabe, Kenya, Kathy attended Barrington College (Rhode Island) earning a B.A. degree in General Studies in 1975.

A new job moved Kathy to Virginia where she met Kevin, and they were married in 1980. Most of their married life was lived in Woodbridge, VA, where they raised their two children, Kristin and Kyle. Later they lived in Myrtle Beach, SC, for six wonderful years, 2011 to 2017, but then returned to Virginia to be closer to family.

Kathy’s life was lived in service to God and others. Always active in the churches she attended, Kathy was an integral part of the hospitality, prayer ministries, and women’s Bible studies. In particular she found great joy in serving with Kairos teams, a ministry to incarcerated women. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; above all others, her family was always the love of her life.

Her heart to serve led to work with hospice, where she was able to come alongside those who were at the end of their lives. She felt honored to bring comfort to both the patient and the family.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Kevin, her children, Kristin (Joshua), and Kyle (Soyoun), as well as five amazing grandchildren, Keegan, Liam and Falyn Brown, and Ellie and Laina Brebner. Survivors also include her mother, Barbara Dunkerton, her sister, Karen Erickson (Craig), her brothers, Thomas (Ann), Richard (Janice), Donald (Mary), her uncles, James Fogg and Ronald Fogg, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Friday, September 10, 2021, hosted at Orange Baptist Church, 123 W. Main Street, Orange, 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. www.lls.org
