Katherine Coppedge Daniel August 7, 2025
Katherine “Kaci” Coppedge Daniel, 44, died August 7, 2025, of complications of sarcoma. Born August 8, 1980, to Nancy “Nan” Berry Coppedge and Dennis Lee Coppedge of Etlan, Kaci was proud to have lived her entire life in Madison County. She was predeceased by grandparents Nancy and Thornton Berry and Fred and Lucy Coppedge, and uncles Edward and Tommy Berry, all of Madison; and young cousin Henry Mawyer of Belgrade, Montana.
Kaci graduated from Madison County High School in 1998. She knew she wanted to attend Virginia Tech from the time she was ten years old, and earned both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from there. She served as 4-H Extension Agent for Youth Development in Orange County for 24 years. She was herself a Virginia 4-H All Star after a youth spent in many different parts of the 4-H program. She was passionate about agriculture education, public speaking, and leadership and life skills development in “her” kids, whom she numbered in the thousands. She was honored to work with former 4-H participants who returned to serve as adult volunteers and introduce their own children to 4-H.
Kaci married her husband Scott Daniel in 2007, and they spent a wonderful 18 years together traveling and spending lots of time with family. Generations of family friendships ultimately brought them together, and they enjoyed being able to live so near to so many family members. Spending time with nieces, nephews, and her cousins’ children was a very special part of her life.
Kaci loved time spent on her family’s two Century Farms, daily views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, trips to the Northern Neck and Chesapeake Bay, cooking, working in her yard, and supporting youth livestock and sports activities. She had traveled to 46 states and five countries, but Madison was always home.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by her sister Laura Coppedge DeBoer and husband Chris, and their children Sam and Hannah; in-laws Donnie and Margaret Daniel, Laura Daniel, and Brian Daniel and wife Heather, and their children Emillee, Blake, Landen, Daisy, and Baylor; close young cousins Jeremy, Esma, and Layla Owens, and Thornton and Matilda Mawyer; a large extended family; friends of more than 20 years Kelly Mallory, Veronica Steer, and Jocelyn Pearson; and faithful “little dog” Deuce.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 15, at 7 pm at the Wetsel Middle School gym in Madison, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, Kaci requested monetary donations be made in support of 4-H and acts of service be performed to “make the best better”, the 4-H motto.
Friends of Kaci have honored her by creating the Katherine “Kaci” Daniel Building to Endowment Fund to support 4-H programs in Madison and Orange Counties. To give in honor of Kaci, make checks payable to Virginia Tech Foundation and designate Katherine “Kaci” Daniel 4-H BTE Fund (879177) in the memo line; checks may be sent to the Madison or Orange Extension Offices.
