Col. Ivar Walter Rundgren, Jr., retired U.S. Army of Stanardsville; VA passed away April 15, 2022 at his home.

 

He was born September 4, 1930 in Passaic, NJ, the son of the late Ivar Walter Rundgren, Sr., and Inez Karlsson Rundgren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Grace Rundgren, his brothers, Richard William Rundgren and Kent Roger Rundgren.

 

He is survived by his wife, Vyvyan Arata Rundgren, his daughters, Deborah Ann Anna and Lynn Ellen McDonald, his son, David Mark Rundgren and wife Cynthia Rundgren, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Elizabeth Marie Jones and husband Craig Jones; step-son Joseph Randall Powers and wife Sara Powers, eight step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He served his country for over twenty-eight years both in the Air Force and U.S. Army.   He often said, “I would do it all again”.  He was a 1956 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and earned a degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

 

A memorial service will be held at the Hebron Lutheran Church, Madison, VA on Tuesday, April 26 at 2 p.m.. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Hebron Church, P.O. Box 1009, Madison, VA 22727.
